High Power Density SiC-Based Modular Power Converters for Medium Voltage Applications

Abstract:

The impulse statement will first define the Intergrid concept in which all subsystems are interfaced to a higher-level system through bidirectional power converters. Presentation will then focus on the topology and control design of the main power conversion components of these future power systems, the electronic energy routers. Recent CPES experiences in implementing high-frequency, high power density converters using SiC devices at different power levels will be described. Design, implementation and testing of an experimental 6 kV, 0.5 MW, half-bridge power cell, utilizing 10 kV SiC MOSFETs switching at 10 kHz, for operation in a medium-voltage modular multi-cell (MMC) converters, will be presented next.
