Reactive Power Planning @ 50Hertz Transmission System

Abstract:

Due to the energy transition in Germany more and more inverter-based renewable energy sources replace conventional power plants. That is the case for active but also for reactive power. In Germany RES centers are comparably far away from load centers which leads to greater transporting distance and higher line loadings resulting in higher reactive power losses. To avoid a reactive power bottleneck, new means to provide static and dynamic reactive power need to be found (RES, HVDC, FACTS). At 50Hertz Transmission we are currently working on several projects to leverage these new potentials.
